Guidiville Band closer to winning city approval for gaming report

Filed Under: California | Casino Stalker

The city council in Richmond, California, is poised to approve a casino report for the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The council held public hearings to discuss the environmental impact statement and environmental impact report for the Point Molate Resort. Despite voter opposition to the project, it looks like the casino is moving forward.

"For us, this is the culmination of almost 60 years of waiting to have a reservation," Chairman Michael Derry told the paper. "It means health care, education, employment. It means having a homeland."

If the report is approved, the city will still have to decide whether to turn the Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot over to the tribe and its developers. The tribe also needs Bureau of Indian Affairs approval for its land-into-trust application.
